Body Worlds Tour

It’s Saturday afternoon and I just finished touring the Body Worlds exhibit at the Calgary Science Centre with 12 enthusiastic members of the FRESH! Fitness community.  It was awesome!

For me personally, it was my 3rd time seeing the exhibit (previously Montreal & Edmonton) and it still blew me away.  There were some new features that I hadn’t seen, but the beauty and complexity of the human form is something that never fails to amaze me.  The exhibit is incredibly organized, the information provided makes you reflect on your past, appreciate your present, and become motivated about creating your future!

It was also great to see the wonder, awe and amazement in the faces of those who attended the tour.  During the visit I was able to use the various exhibit specimens to answer a wide range of questions from the group and explain about common fitness and health related conditions they may have experienced (or were still experiencing).  Whether it was that nagging IT Band, plantar fasciitis, or muscle injury, to a more detailed explanation (with visuals) of the broken bone or orthopedic surgery they had, the answer was easy to provide due to the surrounding exhibits.

One thing I found nice was

Body Worlds - An incredible way to learn about what happens under YOUR skin!

Body Worlds - An incredible way to learn about what happens under YOUR skin!

that one question or comment easily led into other related areas because there were so many things to talk about and the easily accessible exhibit features simply led us from one topic to another.  It really is an incredible learning environment and one you MUST experience to truly understand.

The entire exhibit leaves you with a greater understanding of how every day of our amazing journey through life influences each following day.  The choices we’ve made in the past are the ones that have determined who we are today.  That means the decisions we make today will shape who we become tomorrow.

So, because I’m feeling philosophical, I will leave you with a few questions…

  • What choices have you made in the past?
  • Are there things you would change?
  • What parts of your health, body, thoughts, and life are less than ideal?
  • What decisions and actions can you take today to put yourself in a better place tomorrow?

At FRESH!, our goal is to help people make positive choices in their health, fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle.  Whether it’s getting in better shape, learning to eat right for your metabolism, actually boost your metabolism, or understand how all of the aspects of an optimal health and wellness plan should fit together,we can help.  Just book your initial consultation with us to find out how we can help YOU. Oh yeah, and the great thing is…it’s FREE!

Be sure to leave your comments below.  I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the exhibit.  Due to the great response from this tour, I will be organizing at least one other tour this summer.  If you are interested, just send me a message and I will put you on the list.  Also, check back at the events section of this site for news and updates on future tours.

Have a great weekend!

I took part in this tour on Saturday with my husband and we both found it to be an enriching experience.
The Science Center does an effective job of grouping certain themes together with the first exhibit focusing on the brain and the last exhibit focusing on reproductive health so you can do it all over again! My husband didn’t realize that these were going to be real bodies, and that is a very neat part of the exhibit.

The true value came in, though, when Tim was able to elaborate further than the placards could. You could ask detailed questions about some of your lifestyle choices and how that could physically look. My favorite bit was learning more about the liver. As an avid beer and wine connoisseur, i thought only of the liver as a filter for alcohol, but seeing that it filters all toxins from the blood was an eye opener.

To those of you who are thinking about going….do it and try to tag along with Tim’s presentation for an added benefit. Seeing the exhibit will re-enforce your good nutrition and exercise habits!

I attended the Body Worlds tour with Tim on Saturday and while the exhibit is amazing itself, having Tim there was an extra bonus.

Having Tim there to answer specific questions, whether about injuries, body movement or effects of nutrition it made the experience that much more interesting.

I also enjoyed the group aspect, there were lots of questions asked and discussions going on that you wouldn’t get without the benefit of having Tim along.

I highly recommend going next time Tim offers a tour!
