Have you ever been frustrated over a lack of results from your workout routine?

If so, you are in good company. Even the most seasoned athletes experience times when their results plateau.

When you continue to put in the same effort day after day with little or no results it is safe to say that you’ve hit your own fitness plateau.

Your body adapts quickly to any repetitive routine. The definition of ‘insanity’ is to do the same thing over and over while expecting different results. This holds true for your workouts. When your results stop then it’s time to do something new.

15 Simple Tips to Stay Fit and Healthy During the Calgary Stampede

cowboy-hat-beer_small

Every year Calgary hosts the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth and every year people do more damage to their body, fitness results, confidence, and self-esteem than any other time (except perhaps Christmas and New Years).  In fact, for many Calgarians, the Stampede really is Christmas in July!

I’m all for enjoying myself and celebrating what is truly a fantastic city-wide event.  However, each year I see the fallout that happens from the misguided and sometimes outright crazy choices people make on a daily basis while attending the various festivities.  Between the local bars, concerts, corporate events, FREE breakfasts, community BBQ’s, and random parties, there are a million things to do, and that doesn’t even include the events at the actual Stampede Grounds!

So with all these things going on and potential temptations around every corner (mini donuts), how does someone maintain a healthy approach to nutrition and exercise and avoid messing up months of hard work in ten short days?  The good news is that it’s quite simple, and doesn’t involve sacrificing your Stampede experience!  A few simple adjustments in behavior and mindset will take you a long way.  Follow these tips and you will thank me (and yourself) for the lack of extra pounds and a hangover-free Stampede! Mid-Year Check-up on Your Fitness & Fat Loss Resolutions

What happened to YOUR New Year's Resolution? A Calgary Personal Trainer gets you back on track

Happy Canada Day!  I hope the first part of your year was spectacular!

If you are like most people, you likely set a New Years Resolution 6 months ago.  How is that progress coming along? Again, like most people, this resolution has probably been long forgotten or seriously slipped in importance as the comfort of old habits crept back in.

You may ask what prompted me to write at the start of July and check into your progress.  Well, the fact is, I’m a “glass half full” type of person and wanted to let you know that there is still plenty of time to reach your goals.  It’s true that the year is half over, but that also means there is still half the year to go!

The End of Food Temptation

fit2

You start each morning with the promise to be “good” today.

You’ll refuse the baked goods at the office. You’ll speed past that fast food place at lunch. You’ll turn a blind eye to the vending machine in the mid-afternoon. And you’ll pass on the ice cream after dinner.

But… you hadn’t counted on the fact that a box of your favorite donuts would be sitting in the break room. Or that co-workers would invite you to join them for fast food place at lunch. Or that Girl Scouts would come through the office after school with boxes of thin mints. Or that your special someone would come home with a pint of Coffee Heath Bar Crunch.

And as you get into bed each night you tell yourself that tomorrow will be different.

Tomorrow you will conquer temptation.

But tomorrow comes with its own set of special circumstances and temptation gets the best of you once again.

Why Does Temptation Always Win?

Are You Lazy?

55-lazy2

I know a lot of lazy people.

People who would rather spend the day planted on their couch than anywhere else.

People who choose take-out over home cooked, every night of the week.

People who would rather have a root canal than go do a workout.

  • You’d rather be a passive observer than an active participant.
  • You’re a master excuse-maker.
  • You find shortcuts in order to avoid the long haul.

If that’s you, don’t get down on yourself. There are many legitimate causes of laziness. Here are just a few…
