Tim,

I'm behind you 100% on this one. I find awfully strange how the argument of Religion was brought into this conversation as the display is clearly meant for the betterment of science.

For those that say it's barbaric, that comment leaves me pretty confused. Do these people not understand that things like this over time have lead us to where we are today in our understanding of the human body? To think otherwise is almost barbaric.

Anywho Tim, keep up the good articles and stay FRESH!

Thank you for the passionate response Cara.

I have one question for you...If ALL of the money was given to charity, would you feel differently? You use the "for profit" argument as fuel for your comments, but I don't see anything wrong with someone making a profit from a valid business. You may not agree with the industry that Body Worlds has chosen to make their money, or the image they portray as a business; however, I would guess from your comments that your anger has much less to do with business profits and more to do with your personal world view on humans, life, death, and art.

Let me go on the record and say...there is nothing wrong with your view point. It takes all kinds of views and opinions to create a free and functioning world. The best part about our society is that the free market can decide what they want to "consume". From the success of the exhibit and "profits" (not just monetary) of the entire global business Body Worlds has created, it seems that the public has voted with their wallets!

To address a couple other parts of your comment...you mention that the bodies were placed in "sexual" positions, and you assume that this was done without the consent of the individuals in the exhibit. I have seen the exhibit a couple times in separate cities and do not recall anything remotely sexual about the placement of the "models". Are you able to provide photo examples? What is your definition of "sexual"?

As for the consent situation...outside of the initial phase of Gunther's work (and prior to the global exhibit tour) when he used "John and Jane Doe" bodies for his research, the new exhibit features people who VOLUNTARILY donated their bodies to the exhibit and cause. They do this with full knowledge that their body will be placed on display in a unique position and that Body Worlds will make a profit on the exhibits. You may have not seen it through your tears and anger, but the donation forms are at the exit of the exhibit, and the line-up to donate was HUGE (in BOTH cities I visited)! Remember, these are people who have just finished walking through the exhibit and found it powerful and compelling enough to donate their body to science, art, and the educational cause they obviously feel strong about!

Can you judge these people for making such a conscious, personal and emotional decision about their life and death? Would you take away the personal freedom to decide what they can do to their body upon death? This is what they believe in, and they felt strongly enough to act on those feelings. This is similar to how strongly you feel, and how you felt compelled to act by commenting on my blog post.

For that I THANK YOU and hope that this dialogue continues!

Have a fantastic day. Continue following your heart and passions in life!

Tim, you are so wrong. You have been tricked into thinking this is all for science and education, blah blah blah, but it is not. It is for the MONEY. And that right there is disrespectful to the HUMAN LIVES and the vessels that once held them, that are now on display to MAKE MONEY for the insensitive creeps who decided to USE them for their own personal gain. There is a whole segment of showing bodies in sexual positions and yet you still tout that this is respectful??? How can you say that? Would you like your sister, mother, daughter, who died suddenly and before her time, to be stripped of her skin, plasticized, and positioned in a sexual position with some other male dead body, put on display as some circus freak show, to be displayed that way for years??? I seriously doubt you would. Think of these people and the lives they had. Now think of them forever immortalized in a sexual position, in a position of throwing a tennis ball, in a swing, as if they are alive and not deceased. They should be out of the public eye, at rest. This is not the society I want to be a part of, one where people think that degrading human bodies is art, and art is science. Seriously think about these exhibits and what they are SELLING you. They want you to come back every year so they can validate their sick facade of something "educational". And yes I have seen it, so don't tell me that I would have a different view if I had been there. I wept, and had to leave. It was not because it was disgusting or that I couldn't "handle" it. I felt for these humans, I wished I could take them all and put them to rest properly. I thought of each and every one that I saw as my own kin, and wept for their sorrows. It was a deeply disturbing thing to see what humans do to other humans, even after they have passed. Exploitation does not stop at death. Cadavers are not "kept hidden" in university labs...if people do not get educations or read books or try to learn then that is their problem. Setting up dead humans on display for profit is never okay. If you think the degradation of human bodies is "eye-catching and entertaining" then you should re-evaluate your thoughts on art, and science as you think it is. Also, we share the same bones, muscles, etc. but there is one huge difference. I have control over my body and these poor people who have passed do not anymore. I have blood coursing through my veins while they do not. I breathe the air that was robbed from these people in one way or another. What are their names? If it were respectful, shouldn't there be a name associated with the body? Where is the backstory? This is not science my friend, this is greed from freaks, and you are fueling the fire.

Hi Lisa,

If you are familiar with the FRESH! approach to Nutrition, we take a Holistic WHOLE foods approach. That means we encourage people to eat REAL, whole foods as much as possible. Additionally, we encourage people to understand their own unique metabolic type and response to the foods they eat. For many people this means dramatically limiting wheat and dairy (especially store-bought commercial options).

While this approach definitely doesn't fit with the posted recipe...it doesn't mean you can NEVER eat these things. It's all about knowing your OWN response to the food you eat, and understanding the consequences that having certain foods has on your body, mind, and ultimately, your results.

So, to answer your question about Protein Powder, I would say to use it only as a last resort, or emergency. You are WAY better off eating a high quality source of real protein (i.e. an organic chicken breast, grass fed beef, etc.). However, if you find yourself in the situation where you want or choose to have protein powder, then here are a few guidelines...

When purchasing a Whey protein powder read the ingredients. It should not have any artificial flavors, sweeteners, fillers, binders, no fat or sugar added, or anything else. There are many types of protein powder...
Whey - See below (Stick to Hydrolized or Isolate)
Casein - Absorbed slower
Egg - From egg whites. Non-dairy. Less allergenic
Soy - Avoid it...especially for men. Isoflavines raise estrogen levels. Also mostly Genetically Modified and has high allergy concerns
Hemp - Complete protein. High in Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)
Rice - Lower in Lysine, often combined with Pea Protein to create a better Amino Acid proile
Pea - Hypoallergenic and lighter texture.

Concentrates: The cheapest form of most proteins. It contains higher amounts of fat and carbohydrate than more pure versions and can be clumpy and hard to mix by hand. In the case of casein, it’s referred to as “caseinate. Avoid concentrate proteins. They are a waste of money and the quality varies dramatically between brands.

Isolate: More pure than concentrate. Contains lower amounts of fat and carbohydrate. Is also easier to mix. Generally around 80-90% protein.

Hydrosylate, or hydrolyzed protein. Protein that’s been broken down into smaller fractions (enzymatically pre-digested), allowing it to be absorbed into your bloodstream more quickly. However, when it comes to casein hydrosylate, this defeats the purpose, since the benefit of casein is that it absorbs slower than whey protein.

Micellar casein, or isolated casein peptides: An expensive but easy-to-mix proteincomposed almost entirely of pure casein, ensuring slow and steady absorption.

I hope this helps. Please call or email us with any questions, or if you would like to dive deeper into any of these topics.

I will agree with you that the visual aspect of the Body Worlds exhibit strikes some people as "bizarre & freakish". However, I feel the display is extremely unique, eye-catching, and brings the education of anatomy, physiology and the amazing human body to millions of people who would never have learned about this subject if cadavers were kept hidden in university anatomy labs.

Having seen the Body Worlds exhibit multiple times, I can say that the bodies are described and displayed with the utmost respect to human form and function. There is also a large educational component to teach people about general anatomy/physiology, but also the physical repercussions of our lifestyle choices (smoking, drugs, overeating, etc.)

I think its disgusting. On one hand, to use cadavers as medical 'vehicles' for discovery and learning betters all people, but to exhibit corpses in such fashion I think is bizarre and freakish. Would Jesus likely go to an exhibit like this? No.
