Mid-Year Check-up on Your Fitness & Fat Loss Resolutions

Happy Canada Day!  I hope the first part of your year was spectacular!

If you are like most people, you likely set a New Years Resolution 6 months ago.  How is that progress coming along? Again, like most people, this resolution has probably been long forgotten or seriously slipped in importance as the comfort of old habits crept back in.

You may ask what prompted me to write at the start of July and check into your progress.  Well, the fact is, I’m a “glass half full” type of person and wanted to let you know that there is still plenty of time to reach your goals.  It’s true that the year is half over, but that also means there is still half the year to go!
What happened to YOUR New Year's Resolution? A Calgary Personal Trainer gets you back on track

There are still SIX months left this year!

Why in the world would you give up now
when you can still achieve your goals?

It’s very common to have setbacks on the road to success and what separates those who fail to acheive their goals from those people who ultimately succeed is perseverence.

In January and February of this year you were likely very motivated and diligent in working towards your goals, but by March or April, your enthusiasm and motivation probably started to decrease.  Additionally, many other factors were vying for your time and energy.  Under these circumstances, its difficult to maintain focus on your goals.  Notice how I said “difficult”, rather than “impossible”.

I understand that creating change can be difficult.  I’m have many goals (business, personal, health, fitness and family related) myself and have to make a conscious effort to revisit them on a regular basis and put in place the steps needed to reach them.

This message is meant to be a “wake-up call” and get you back on track to your goals.  It’s time to dust off those resolutions, make some quick adjustments to your timeline, and get to working putting your plan in place.

Everyone has a different set of goals, but weight loss is by far the most common so I will use it as an example.  With 26 weeks left in the year, and two pounds per week of fat loss (a safe and realistic amount for most people) that means you could still lose over 50 pounds of fat in the last half of this year alone!

In fact, if you are someone with a significant amount of weight to lose, your amount could be even greater.  People have lost upwards of 100 pounds in 6 months and kept it off (because that’s more important than how much you lose).  So, if you were thinking that the year was a “write-off” and that you would just try again next year, it’s time to shake off those negative thoughts and the tendency to procrastinate.

Right now, make a pact with yourself to re-start the path to your goals (say it out loud to yourself and write it down to make it more real).  If you’ve forgotten what those are, take a few minutes to really think about it.  In January, it may have been to fit into that swimsuit for summer.  Well, summer is here, so just readjust your focus to say that you will fit into it by the end of this year.  Who cares if it will be winter and you won’t be able to wear the swimsuit outside.  There are many ways around this.  You can take a vacation somewhere warm and sunny and look great in your swimsuit, hold a Christmas “Beach Party” to show off your new beach ready body, or maybe you are just one for internal rewards and will just enjoy how you feel in your new slim, fit body.  Of course you will smile internally when people keep telling you how great you look!
