Resting Metabolism Assessment (RMR)

Resting Metabolism Assessment in Calgary! How many calories can YOU consume without gaining weight? How much (and what) do you need to eat to lose fat, gain muscle, and control your body composition?

To effectively manage “Calories In” and “balance the Energy Equation”, it is important to know your daily caloric requirements. Approximately seventy percent (sometimes as high as 90%, but never less than 60%) of the total calories you burn each day are composed of the calories needed for essential life processes as measured by the Resting Metabolic Rate or RMR. The remaining percent of calories burned come from physical activity such as digestion, activities of daily living and exercise.

If you’ve ever struggled to lose body fat, been confused by different diet plans, and think your metabolism may not be functioning properly, then this test is a critical starting point for you to successfully accomplish your fat loss objectives.

It will provide you with scientific information about how your metabolism is functioning, what you can do about it, and step-by-step guidelines about how to get those things done!

Essentially, you’ve taken all the guesswork out of weight loss and have the tools at your disposal to make informed choices each day. Each of those sensible choices will take you one step close to your goals. This definitely beats the frustration of “trial and error” fad diets!

Everyone’s metabolism and caloric needs are different.

Scientifically Measured RMR vs. Estimations

Your RMR can be determined by estimations (such as those all to common online “calculators”). These are subject to significant error and can be off by as much as 1000 calories or 20-25%. Errors of this magnitude can lead to an inappropriate nutritional plan for your needs and ultimately weight gain and frustration with the weight loss process.

The “gold standard” for determining RMR is through indirect calorimetry using a metabolic analyzer which measures both VO2 and VCO2. FRESH! is one of the only companies to provide this lab quality metabolism testing in Calgary.

Resting Metabolic Rate Assessment (RMR) and what it means for YOUR Results

The FRESH! Metabolism Assessment System by iWorx is lab quality and measures both VO2 (oxygen) and VCO2 (carbon dioxide) for the greatest accuracy.

This is combined with ECG quality heart rate measurements to give you a complete “snapshot” of how your metabolism is functioning at rest.

As mentioned earlier, the guesswork is gone, and you have all the information needed to get the results you’ve always dreamed of.

Of course the FRESH! team is behind you and keeping you accountable to actually IMPLEMENT the necessary changes!

What you can expect from the assessment process

The assessment is simple and easy.  In fact, it will probably be the easiest test you ever do!  It generally requires 10 to 15 minutes (sometimes up to 20 minutes) to complete and you just have to sit in a comfortable chair, relax, and breathe casually for the entire time.  It is non-invasive and you don’t need any special skills to do it!

RMR assessments are completed before noon due to the need for a 12 hour fast.  This removes any potential factors that could influence your metabolism (caffeine, sugar, alcohol, etc.).  You will have dinner the night before your test, get a good sleep, and we will conduct the test as soon as possible in the morning.  You should bring a snack so you can eat something immediately after your test.

Prior to the test you will get a forms package and email from us outlining the testing protocol.  This, combined with our FAQ page, should answer any questions you have.

After the assessment, the expert coaches at FRESH! will meet with you for a detailed coaching session to review your test results and outline a plan for success. Within 2 business days after the assessment, you will receive a detailed graphical report via email.

This custom created document (usually around 6 or 7 pages) includes your RMR values, total caloric consumption and action plan for helping you reach your goals.

The test determines your ratio of fat and carbohydrate utilization and we provide the recommendations to optimize this ratio. We will also set the stage for your next re-assessment so we can begin to chart the progress and changes in RMR that you are making.

Your report also includes a detailed section on nutrition and summary of the nutritional topics we discussed during the consultation.
