Brene Brown – Fitness and the Value of Feedback

Here’s what Brene Brown has to say about fitness and the value of feedback…

I LOVE getting inspiration from great people, particularly those smart, passionate, inspirational ones who are putting themselves out there and making the world a better place each day. Brene Brown is one of those people.

Here’s what she has to say about fitness and the value of feedback…

“If you’re not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I’m not interested in your feedback. If you have constructive feedback you want to give me, I want it… But if you’re in the cheap seats, not putting yourself on the line, and just talking about how I can do it better, I’m in no way interested in your feedback.”

Here are some powerful words you can apply to many areas of life, even fitness. Look around, health, fitness, body composition, and body image are HUGE topics. This is particularly true on social media, but also in social and workgroups.

There is no shortage of people who will offer up their opinion on your fitness and weight loss progress (or lack thereof). Most of them are simply armchair critics who would rather criticize others than improve their own performance. The key is to decide who you will look to for inspiration, and who you will listen to.

I believe that the latter group should be VERY small and composed of key people. Brene would describe these people as being “in the arena each day,” “being vulnerable,” and “getting their ass kicked.” Also, gaining real experience and genuinely care about assisting you on your journey.

Think about it. That’s a pretty small list. When you can focus on the genuine feedback of those people and ignore everyone else, life becomes much more simple, focused, less stressful, and the results will flow quicker than you ever thought.

Oh yeah, it won’t be EASY, but it will definitely be WORTH IT!

I welcome you to join me in the arena of life to get some literal and figurative bumps, scrapes, and bruises on your journey of personal growth and development. It’s an incredible ride and a supportive community!
