3 Tips To Take You Into The Holiday Season

As your coach heading into 2023, here’s what I’d really love to see you focus on and make your priorities. If I could say “please make these things a priority” and you’d actually take them to heart…these would be the 3 tips to take you into the holiday season: own your time, honor your body, and fuel your mind and spirit.

I’m writing this from a restaurant in Vancouver after just spending the past 24 hours catching up with a couple of friends and taking a trip down memory lane. It’s been almost 9 years since I was in Vancouver and almost that long since I saw these two friends in person. While driving to meet them, I took the opportunity to visit the neighborhood I grew up in.

So much has changed, but the thing that struck me most was how “small” things felt. The streets seemed narrower and the houses smaller. This massive dose of love and nostalgia got me thinking about family, friends, life, change, and the role our goals and experiences play in our perspective of life.

These areas brought a few thoughts to my mind that I want to share with you.

Own Your Time

I’ll start with this one as it’s such an easy one to gradually lose track of. Perhaps you’ve already seen this happen throughout the year. I’d love to see you schedule time for yourself and the things/people that are important to you.

  • Book your vacations in advance. Pay a deposit if you can.

  • Block time in your calendar for your family, for your personal development, and really anything else that matters to YOU.

The work stuff will expand into whatever time you allow it to…so block off the time you don’t want it to creep into. I promise you that it won’t hurt your professional progress…and I’d be willing to bet that it will help.

  • You’ll be forced to make important choices.

  • You’ll be required to focus.

Deadlines have a way of making us more productive…like the day prior to leaving on vacation. So use that to your advantage and establish those parameters.

Honor Your Body

This feeds off the first point. When you own your time, you can plan to honor your body. Your body is the vehicle you need to get you from A to B to C and beyond in life. If it breaks down, making progress is much more challenging.

Honor it, move it, get it active, exercise it, help it recover, and care for it. Too many people wait for it to start failing before you take action. I know you are smarter than that.

Commit to finding a couple of active things you enjoy. Then get to work doing them well and consistently. Success in this area isn’t rocket science.

Fuel Your Mind & Spirit

Our body can be in amazing shape, but our mind is the driver behind the wheel. Just like a race car driver won’t be very effective behind the wheel of a broken down car, a blind, incompetent person won’t be able to effectively drive even the best race car.

Our mindset is the filter through which we see the world. In this workshop, you will learn strategies that will support you in cultivating a mindset that creates opportunities and success in your life.

Figure out what’s most important to you (see part 1). Plan your goals for the year. Pick 6-10. Determine what you need to do to reach them. Then plan quarterly, weekly, and daily.

Check-in with your progress at least every week. Do this for 1 year and see what happens…I suspect you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.

So, those are the 3 things I’d love to see you make your priorities in 2023. They’re the things I think will ‘move the needle’ the most in your health, happiness, and life.
