My Wish for You This New Year: Resolutions and Goals

Happy New Year! Have you done your New Year’s resolutions and goals planning already…or will you be scrambling to get it done over the coming days/weeks? Either one can work…as long as it gets done!

The good news is there aren’t any new skills to learn. Most of us do detailed planning for work, but far fewer put the same level of effort and detail into their personal life.

No.1 Resolution & Goal: Mental and Physical Health

This is worrying because one of the largest drivers of happiness and performance at work and home is our mental and physical health. If we don’t properly care for these areas, there are serious negative impacts across every other area of our lives.

Today, I want to share some thoughts on how you can make the upcoming year everything you’ve been hoping for.

See, I strongly believe that each one of us is in control of our actions each day. This means that whether we know it (or believe it), we’ve been responsible for designing our past and our current reality.

Sometimes this is a tough pill to swallow if we aren’t happy with our current situation. That’s OK.

This insight adds fuel to our fire for change and leads us to my next point.

Since we’ve been responsible for creating our past and present, it means we are also the architects of our future. It just requires that we first imagine what that future looks like…put a plan in place, and then act on that plan to make it happen.

In the past, I’ve been guilty of riding on autopilot for long periods of time, reacting to the events of each day, and failing to take initiative towards the goals I had set for myself.

By embracing the following ideas, you can get where you want to go with your personal and professional New Year’s resolutions and goals.

change is crucial for making realistic resolutions and goals

It all Begins with the Concept of Change

Many people fight it, but change is a universal constant in life. Since it’s always there, it makes sense to embrace it.

There are many famous quotes and sayings about change and success, but they can be boiled down to a simple concept.

When you change your beliefs about what you are capable of having, doing, and being…then you’ll change your path.

If you truly believe that you can have the life/health/body/fitness/career that you want and you decide that you will have it – you will have overcome the biggest obstacle standing in your way.

Here’s the simple process

  • Decide what your Ideal Life looks like.
  • Get clear about the type of person you want to be.
  • What do you want to be known for?
  • What positive impact will your chosen life have on others and what it will provide to you?
  • What needs to be done to make this vision a reality?
  • Does the realization of your vision inspire and motivate you enough to get these things done over the long term?
  • Take consistent action. Aim for small wins each day and the long-term impact will blow your mind!

You have the power to create a more profound impact than you have probably ever imagined…on your life and the lives of others.

But I honestly believe that you can only grow and realize the potential within you if you strive to be the best version of yourself…not some watered-down version of someone else’s vision or ideal.

Hit a Grand Slam in Health and Happiness, No Matter What Life Throws at You

Authenticity is Critical. Everyone is Unique…and so are You!

Your changes must happen for the right reasons. Reasons that resonate with YOU, not what someone else thinks is right. At this time of year, fitness, weight loss, financial growth, and other resolutions & goals (dreams) are top of mind.

The lack of purpose and authenticity of these dreams/wishes is at the heart of why 92% of them fail within weeks. Sure, you may want to lose 10 pounds. However, is that REALLY the goal, or is it a symptom of a bigger issue?

See, if you believe in yourself, get clear on your purpose, and commit to being the best version of yourself…then things get simpler.

And simpler is the next part of the plan.

Think of it this way…if you know where you want to go, the path to success becomes much more clear…then you can do fewer things. You will then have the time and focus to do the right things…and to do them better.

Then, it just comes down to generating the results you want.

weight loss goals

Let’s use the Weight Loss goal…

Why XX pounds? I’m willing to bet it’s not the scale weight that is the issue…it’s the actions and habits you’ve developed that led to the weight being gained.

If you focus on losing weight like most people, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture issue…fixing your mindset, habits, and daily actions so that health and vitality are the outcome, rather than weight gain, frustration, and illness.

As we say in our coaching with clients…take the right daily actions and weight loss will happen…among many other positive things! In order to change, you must take responsibility for unlocking and growing the greatness inside of you.

My wish for you is that this simple formula becomes your blueprint for success in 2024!

I believe that if you truly understand what you’re capable of accomplishing, you will be willing to go all in on being the best version of yourself rather than attempting to imitate someone else and their goals.

Get clear on what you want from your Resolutions and Goals

Determine the most important actions you must take. Commit to doing them well, and forgetting the rest of the distractions.

You must embrace that the only way you can create the life/health/career you want is to take responsibility for generating consistent results – small wins each and every day.

Finally…I want you to know that you’re not on this path alone. I’m here with you to help, coach, and guide you, if and when you need it. Sometimes the process of change can seem like a lonely journey…but when I tell you I’m on your team, I mean it.

So let’s look forward to the year ahead

Let’s use the excitement that comes with brand-new resolutions and goals to give us some momentum out of the gate…and then let’s embrace this simple ‘formula’ to keep us moving forward until we each get where we aspire to go.
