Happy Easter Monday and welcome to the start of another great week! Today, I would like to pose a question to you…and help you reframe something many people take for granted. The question is: Are you riding the hamster wheel of healthcare solutions?
What I mean is, “Are you relying only on healthcare solutions to fix your aches, pains, and ailments?” This may seem like a pretty straightforward question and I’m sure most people will answer by saying, “Of course, I see a doctor when I’m sick or injured.
This is natural, but the missing part of the equation is why you got sick or injured in the first place.
Far too many people in today’s world are simply careening from one ache, pain, illness, or injury to another without taking a step back to assess why these things keep happening.
The large majority of the medical system (what’s termed “healthcare”) actually has little to do with caring for people’s health. It’s completely based on sickness management. There is a big difference between acting to maximize health, and taking steps to minimize illness.
This important distinction often gets lost on people. When you get sick, you rest, hydrate, take some medication and get better. When an injury comes up, you go see a physiotherapist, chiropractor, or doctor to heal that condition.
Few people structure their life in a way that sets the foundation for long-term health, vitality, and happiness.
Doing so requires a completely different approach. It’s not complicated or difficult. It just means starting from a different perspective and taking simple actions in each of the 4 Pillars of Performance (Mindset, Habits, Movement, Fuel).
When we step back and look at our life and health from a bigger picture perspective, we often find that many seemingly unrelated symptoms are actually connected to a bigger picture.
This is a key part of our coaching process at FRESH!…helping our clients gain clarity and perspective on the bigger picture solutions.
Check out our carefully designed Online Workshops, and buy your ticket to a healthier and happier life.
Sure, we can help you with:
Specific workouts and exercises
Nutrition tips such as what, when, and how to eat
Habits, motivation, inspiration, and routines
Mindset and performance coaching
BUT, our biggest value comes from tying all of these bits and pieces together so you can make sense of them and incorporate them into your new, healthy, high-performing, fit life.
It’s common for people to want to hire us for “a few sessions”, so we can show them “some workout options to help them get in better shape”. For the large majority of people, providing what they asked for would be doing them a great disservice.
This is because learning some more workout options won’t solve their problem.
Before getting to actual workouts, they must know:
WHY do they want to exercise in the first place
What goals they are trying to accomplish
Which factors in their health/injury history need attention first
What aspects of each of the 4 Pillars are the highest priority
- How to do the 7 Primal Movement Patterns correctly in a variety of variations
What type of program focus would best for their needs
How to effectively BREATHE and BRACE in any physical environment
How competent, willing, and motivated they are to do these things on their own
Can you see why a few sessions are woefully inadequate to meet their needs? Based on these points, does it makes sense why taking this short-term perspective leads so many people to fail in their health and wellness goals?
This is one aspect of the “Hamster Wheel of Healthcare solutions”, but we see it with doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapy, acupuncture, and many other modalities.
People are constantly reacting to symptoms, seeking short-term band-aid fixes, and bouncing from one practitioner to another in search of a “quick fix”.
Despite all this work and effort, they typically only see short-term results and end up frustrated or defeated by how “hard” it is to get healthy and fit.
The solution requires a shift in mindset to embark on a journey of personal development that includes taking action in each of the 4 Pillars of Personal Performance.
Plus, this solution requires an understanding that progress is continual. You can speed it up, slow it down (or stop), but it should never end.
As a former Personal Trainer, I see this hamster wheel of health every day and help clients step off that wheel of healthcare solutions and onto a new highway to health.
At FRESH!, we don’t do “personal training” anymore. We COACH people to better performance. As you now know, coaching goes FAR beyond simply making people sweat during a workout.
Keep in mind that getting healthy, fit, and boosting your happiness does not have to be complicated or expensive.
It simply requires a commitment to value yourself, your health, and your future, while also taking small steps each day to improve. I often remind clients that I would rather see them once a month for a year, than 12 times in one month. This is because change takes time, and over a year we can create a great transformation!
One month is a great jumpstart, but without the rest of the information, accountability, and support, early motivation often fizzles, and results stagnate. We’ve all been there.
If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired (or injured), we would love to help. Just reach out and book your FREE Success Coaching Session.
